Southeast Asian Bakestry
Basketry, one of traditional handicrafts, appeared and developed long time ago. Major plant materials are chosen in accordance with each woven item function. One or many materials may be used to create the contrast of lay-out and color. The harder material is used for form, while the softer one is strand.
The structure of basket-work depends on the manner to weave and interlace fiber strands. The interlacing work with one or two strands is popular. Techniques that use three or more sets of strands moving in different directions have especially developed.
