The conference held on October 23, 2015 was an activity in the series of events organized to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology’s establishment.

It brought together experts and researchers of museology, cultural studies, ethnography/anthropology who work in national museums, local museums, specialized museums, and some research institutes and universities.

The conference covered four sessions: 1. Doing research – Collecting, Building Collections; 2. Educational Activities and Intangible Cultural Performances in Museums; 3. Developing and Organizing Exhibitions in Museums; and 4. Communities in Museums’ Activities.

Such issues as the conception and approaches in the current museum field on the base of the relationship between museums and communities were put forward and discussed in the conference. This was also a forum for scholars and researchers to share lessons learned and search for new ideas in museum activities, especially towards new thinking and new approaches, as well as to point out today challenges to the Vietnam’s museum circles.
