The program Enjoying the Year of the Monkey was organized at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology on February 13th and 14th, 2016 according to the collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Kon Tum Province. More than 100 local people from Hà Nội and such provinces as Kon Tum, Yên Bái, Hải Phòng, Bắc Ninh and over 200 volunteers who are students and pupils in Hà Nội participated in the program and created rich colors for the program.
The programs presented to the public some special features of cultures of some ethnic peoples in Kon Tum Province such as: gong and xoang performance of the Banah; playing tha gong and musical instruments (đinh pú, bôông bôông) of Brau people; playing musical instruments (tơrưng, klông pút) of the Xodang, local foodway of Kon Tum etc. Along with such lively activities, some traditional dishes of Thai people in YênBái Province were introduced to the public. Four supernatural creature dance, clay crackers, and other demonstrations of the Việt that are maintained for many years were also done this year. Twenty folk games including ones of some ethnic groups in the Central Highlands appeared in the programs and attracted many people. Such activities as caligraphy, swinging, and water puppetry show took place at the Museum from February 11th through February 14th.
Before these programs, on January 30th, 2016, the Museum organized the program Discovering the Việt’s Tết with such activities as making chưng cake, printing Đông Hồ paintings, and playing folk games to serve young visitors in Hà Nội.
From February 11th to February 14th, 2016, the Museum received more than 28,000 visitors including nearly 19,000 people participating in the Enjoy the Year of the Monkey program. Approximately 200 news and articles written about the program were published in newspapers, the Internet, and television.
